(05-08) 16:47 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred Friday afternoon at a residential hotel in the Tenderloin, authorities said.
The unidentified male victim was pronounced dead on arrival at San Francisco General Hospital, police said.
The victim was stabbed at 1:11 p.m. inside the Dalt Hotel at 34 Turk St. A clerk at the hotel declined to answer questions about the slaying.
The Dalt was once one of the Tenderloin's most notorious residential hotels, and in 2003 it was the scene of a shooting rampage in which four people died. Shortly thereafter, the nonprofit Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corp. rehabilitated the building and reopened it in 2005 as a showpiece for supportive housing for poor and formerly homeless people.
Nonprofit officials could not be reached for comment about the stabbing.
