(05-20) 15:30 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- A 34-year-old father of two who had a reputation as a neighborhood peacemaker was shot to death today outside his home in a Bayview district public housing project, in what police termed an execution-style killing.
Andre Daniels was shot twice in the head at 8:45 a.m. in front of 41 Cameron Way in the Alice Griffith project near Candlestick Park. Police say he lived in the development with his wife and two children.
Sgt. Wilfred Williams, a spokesman for the Police Department, said neighbors reported hearing five or six shots, but that no one had come forward to say they saw the killing. He said police have no suspect description.
Neighbors and investigators said Daniels, who had only minor scrapes with police, was known in the area as a mediator.
"That's why this is sort of a shock," said Inspector Kevin Jones of the homicide detail. "He wasn't a problem in the neighborhood."
Yvonne Marshall, a resident at Alice Griffith, said Daniels "didn't bother nobody - I've never seen him argue or get it into with nobody.
"He was a good guy, a peacemaker," Marshall said. "I was shocked to hear about it."
Daniels would take his children to school and help them as they rode minibikes in the area, neighbors said. The two minibikes, along with the family barbecue, were outside Daniels' home today.
The slaying was the 43rd in San Francisco this year, compared with 38 at this time in 2007. The total for all last year was 98, the most in more than a decade.

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― A man believed to be between 25 and 35 years old died at a San Francisco hospital Friday morning from a gunshot or stab wound after crashing his vehicle in the city's South of Market neighborhood, according to the Police Department.
Officers responded at about 5:15 a.m. to Mission and Eighth streets, where the man had crashed into a mailbox, police said.
Police found the man alone inside the vehicle suffering the chest wound, according to police.
The man was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Shootings, Stabbings, Assault, Electric Shock
There were two stabbings and one shooting from Saturday night to Sunday morning.
According to Bay City News:
A drive-by shooting also occurred Saturday Night,on Alemany Blvd. near Ellsworth Street, but no one was injured.
There was also a deadly assault at a Gaints game Friday night. 18 year-old Taylor Buckley of San Carlos punched 18 year-old Anthony Giraudo of Redwood City. Giraudo fell, and struck his head on the ground, sustaining a brain injury. He died the next day at SFGH. Buckley turned himself in, and is being charged with involuntary manslaughter.
There was a shooting in the Oceanview neighborhood, at 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday. A man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There was another shooting on Tuesday night, at 8:55 p.m. in Hunters Point. A victim sustained life-threatening injuries when an unknown number of suspects drove up to him and shot him on the the 2800 block of Third Street.
Finally, a suspect was possibly seriously injured around 1 p.m. Saturday, after cutting some 12,000-volt power lines near Lake Merced. The suspect, who was not found, was apparently trying to steal the wires, and in the process of cutting them caused a flash-fire and power outage.
According to Bay City News:
-The first stabbing was reported at 11:35 p.m. on Saturday at Harrison and 26th streets.
-The second stabbing was reported at 12:30 a.m. today at 11th and Folsom streets.
-The shooting was reported just after 2 a.m. today in the Glen Park neighborhood at Ney and Trumbull streets.
All the victims were uncooperative and transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Suspect in 2007 Murder Convicted

A San Francisco jury has convicted a 34-year-old man for a fatal shooting at a Bayview District public housing complex in 2007, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office announced.
The superior court jury found Jamal Butler, of San Francisco, guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder in the death of 37-year-old Allen Broussard, in a shooting at the Alice Griffith Public Housing site in the early morning hours of Aug. 17.
Broussard, also of San Francisco, was found shot on the sidewalk in the unit block of Nichols Way at about 7 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Butler was arrested days later.
A witness who reported hearing one gunshot and seeing Butler running from the scene testified during the trial about overhearing Butler "make statements acknowledging he was the shooter," according to the district attorney's office.
In addition to Butler's murder conviction, the jury also found Butler guilty of firearm possession by a convicted felon, the district attorney's office reported.
In a statement, District Attorney Kamala Harris thanked the jury and witnesses "for seeing to it that this defendant was held accountable for this callous act."
Harris said the verdict "affirms for residents in every community in San Francisco that there is respect for the sanctity of their lives" and promised violence would be prosecuted "to the fullest extent of the law."
Butler, who also has two prior felony convictions, faces a life sentence in prison and is to be sentenced July 11, according to the district attorney's office.

Police descended on an Excelsior home Tuesday morning for a suspected operation that allegedly processed stolen cars.
Edward Munoz, 49, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and operating a “chop shop,” according to police spokesman Sgt. Steve Mannina. SWAT teams entered 805 Vienna St. at about 7 a.m. and served a search warrant.
At least five people were detained in the bust, and all but Munoz were released after questioning. A 13-year-old was taken to a nearby relative’s house and left in their custody, Mannina said. At least two vehicles were towed from the home, which is located at the intersection of Athens and Persia streets.
The home is a block away from the School of Epiphany elementary school, where students had just started to arrive. Nobody was hurt in the raid, but the Fire Department was called to the scene to put out a mattress fire inside the residence.

Potrero Hill Robbery Suspects Arrested, Charged

Three men who were arrested Monday morning in connection with an armed robbery in the Portero Hill neighborhood were charged in the crime today, according to San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris.
Tony Carter, 20, Dejuan Bankston, 21, and Artes Tims, 19, were charged with robbing a 38-year-old city resident at gunpoint near the intersection of 17th and De Haro streets around 12:15 a.m., Harris said.
"We deserve the right to walk out city's streets without fear of harm," said Harris in a written statement. "We're prosecuting 34 percent more robberies than a year ago and sending a loud and clear signal to those who consider violating our citizens that they will be held accountable."
Bankston, who allegedly held the weapon during the incident, is additionally charged with use of a gun during the commission of a robbery. Because of a prior conviction, Bankston was also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Carter also faces a misdemeanor and felony motion to revoke probation for carrying a concealed firearm or grand theft.
The three suspects are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Most Gunfire In SF Goes Unreported, Violence On Muni A Concern For Most SF Students
-According to the newly installed shot-spotters system, which consists of gunfire-detecting microphones set up in the Western Addition and Hunters Point, the vast majority of gunfire in those neighborhoods goes unreported. This may not be a shock to your average resident of either of those neighborhoods, but it has alarmed city officials.

(05-04) 10:03 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Two men were shot and killed within a 30-minute period Saturday night in separate shootings in San Francisco, police said.
At 10:15 p.m., police said, a 32-year-old Oakland man was gunned down on the 1600 block of Geary Boulevard outside the Japan Center in the city's Japantown neighborhood, which is typically busy on weekend nights.
The man, whose name will not be released until his family is notified, ran across the street, collapsed, and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police said.
Half an hour later, a shooting on the 1000 block of Connecticut Street in the Potrero Hill neighborhood killed Victor Carson, a 41-year-old city resident, according to police and the medical examiner's office.
Carson, shot in the neck, was rushed by ambulance to nearby San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made in either homicide, police said.

(04-30) 19:02 PDT San Francisco -- An Italian restaurant in the Mission District was robbed early this morning while about 10 patrons were eating their dinners, said police Sgt. Neville Gittens.
Police got a call at 1:21 a.m. Wednesday that a man had walked into Beretta on Valencia Street between 22nd and 23rd Streets, waved a gun and shouted, "This is a robbery! Everybody get down!" He didn't fire his gun, and no one was hurt. A restaurant worker handed the man the cash, and he fled on foot eastbound on 23rd Street.
The suspect was described as an African-American male between 25 and 35 years old, 5'8" and 150 pounds and wearing a brown hooded jacket, black baggy jeans and black shoes.
The manager of Beretta was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
There is no indication the hold-up is related to the recent spate of Oakland area restaurant robberies, Gittens said.
"At this point, there's no indication it's related to anything," he said.

A 53-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday afternoon in San Francisco's Sunset District, apparently during an argument with a family member, San Francisco police reported.
The victim, whose name is not yet being released by the San Francisco medical examiner's office, was allegedly fatally stabbed by his brother during a verbal dispute, according to police.
The brother, also 53, was arrested, police reported.
The stabbing took place at about 4 p.m. in the area of 26th Avenue and Lawton Street.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / BCN) ― Three people were injured during a shooting in San Francisco's Mission District Tuesday night, according to the Police Department.
The shooting took place near 20th and Bryant Streets around 9:45 p.m., an SFPD dispatcher said.

(04-19) 14:59 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Two men were killed within 15 minutes of one another in San Francisco on Friday night in unrelated attacks, authorities said.
In the first attack, Keith Johnson, 24, of Vallejo, was shot in a car at 10:47 p.m. in the 1500 block of McKinnon Avenue and died at the scene.
San Francisco police homicide Lt. Mike Stasko said Johnson appeared to have been specifically targeted in the Bayview area slaying.
"It seems like someone ran up and shot the guy, then ran up the street and jumped in a car," Stasko said today.
In the second attack, at 11 p.m. on Friday, Santos Rafael Canto-Aldana, 21, of San Francisco, was shot in the 2300 block of Mission Street. He died later at San Francisco General Hospital.
Stasko said that Canto-Aldana, who had no criminal history, may have been an innocent victim in a gang- related attack.
"Apparently, there were three prior stabbings in that area - this may be someone coming up, doing retribution. He was a Latin male, on the street, he may have been in the wrong place, or wearing the wrong color," Stasko said. "The inspectors are out there doing some follow-up work on it now."

SFPD and DPT Having Trouble
- An SFPD officer who was put on desk-duty after fatally shooting an unarmed man in 2006 was arrested last Friday for allegedly stealing $2,000 dollars that was supposed to be kept as evidence. She pleaded not guilty to charges of grand theft, filing a false police report, doctoring evidence and destroying evidence or records.
- The SFPD is being sued a second time for an incident in 2007 in which police Officer Jesse Serna attacked, pepper-sprayed and arrested a couple with no provocation. The first lawsuit was filed by a separate couple who were also pepper sprayed and arrested in the same incident because they had seen what had happened to the first couple. Between 1996 and 2004 Officer Serna has had the largest number of complaints leveled against him out of the entire SFPD, and has been on desk-duty since June, while his record is reviewed.
- City parking control officers are worried that higher parking fines will cause them to be assaulted more often.

A 40-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after he walked into a San Francisco police station around 4:20 a.m. today with a stab wound in his back, according to officials.
The victim walked into the Northern Police Station located at 1125 Fillmore St. and said he had been stabbed in the back, police said.
An ambulance transported the man to San Francisco General Hospital. The man's injuries were considered serious, according to officials.
The suspects are described as two Hispanic males but no further description was immediately available, police said.

Four Robbery Suspects Arrested

Four suspects have been arrested on charges stemming from three separate stings of robberies in San Francisco, police have announced.
Police investigating eight robberies of Chinese women in Chinatown between March 11 and Thursday arrested city resident Jimmy Situ, 33, the Police Department reported. Situ allegedly approached the women in eight separate incidents and tore off their gold or jade necklaces before fleeing, police said.
Situ was arrested Thursday afternoon and remained in custody Friday on suspicion of robbery, police said.
Another man was arrested Thursday in connection with a string of bank robberies committed between April 7 and Thursday, police said. An FBI agent apparently recognized Scot Beane, 44, from surveillance photos and took him into custody.
Beane was arrested on suspicion of robbing the Washington Mutual Bank at 2166 Chestnut St. on April 7, the U.S. Bank at 443 Castro St. on Wednesday, and the Bank of the West at 295 Bush St. on Thursday, police said.
Also on Thursday, police arrested two 17-year-olds suspected in a series of armed robberies in the city's Potrero Hill neighborhood. The suspects allegedly robbed pedestrians who were walking late at night at gunpoint, police said. Two robberies were carried out April 6 and two on Tuesday, according to police. Police allegedly recovered a firearm from the suspects.

(04-09) 19:22 PDT San Francisco -- San Francisco police and California Highway Patrol officers have shut down Interstate 280 to investigate the fatal shooting of a motorist tonight.
CHP spokesman Shawn Chase said the driver of a red Honda was shot and pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital.
Chase said the highway patrol received information at 6:03 p.m. that there had been a crash in the southbound lanes of I-280 at Alemany Boulevard. They arrived to find a car full of juveniles and the driver shot.
The driver was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The highway remains shut down between Monterey Boulevard and Alemany Boulevard exits.
There is no estimate for how long that portion of the highway will be closed.
The shooting is the second fatal attack of a motorist in two weeks in the Bay Area. Last week, a woman was shot and killed on I-80 in Pinole as she drove with four passengers. An arrest in that case was made today.

(04-06) 23:09 PDT San Francisco -- San Francisco police are investigating the shooting tonight of a teenage boy who was injured in the attack in the Visitacion Valley.
The shooting occurred at 8:50 p.m. at the intersection of Argonaut and Burr avenues, police said.
The boy was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Police said they are are looking for two suspects. No other information about the shooting was immediately available.

Man Beaten to Death in the Tenderloin, Man Shot in Bernal Heights
-A 59 year-old man died at General Hospital last week, after he sustained a head wound during a fight with a 56 year-old man on the 200 block of Leavenworth Street in the Tenderloin. The assailant was arrested.
-A 38 year-old man was injured in a 2:20 p.m. Saturday shooting on the 200 block of Putnam Street, in Bernal Heights. He was struck multiple times in the chest and arm, and was taken to General Hospital in critical condition.
