Two men shot, gang leader arrested

Two men were shot in a drive-by in the Silver Terrace area of SF, around 10 p.m. Wednesday night. The victims were an 18 year-old man who was hit in the arm, and a 34 year-old man, who was hit in the leg.

Also, an alleged gang leader of the Western Addition's Eddy Rock gang was arrested on drug charges in Novato.

The arrested alleged Eddy Rock member, Paris Moffat, is quoted in the Bay Guardian's article "Defying the Injunction" from last week. The article portrays the alleged gang members as victims, saying that they intend to defy the injunction so that they can continue to have events like--and I swear I'm not making this up--film festivals.

It wasn't my intention to portray Paris Moffet or any other member of Eddy Rock as victims. I was simply highlighting what the recent happenings were at Plaza East, an oft-neglected area of the Western Addition that has, in fact, been pretty quiet lately. Few people involved -- from police to the city attorney -- dispute that the gang members have acted on their own accord in stopping the violence. I'm not making up the film festivals, either.

Still, Paris didn't help his cause with the drug possession. If he says he wants to change, then acts differently, I can't control that, and the timing was particularly precarious. I wasn't excusing the gangs' past actions that lead to the injunction.

But thanks for reading. I do appreciate honest feedback, so feel free to share more.

Cheers,
