"Shot Spotters" coming to San Francisco

Quoted from SF Weekly:

"In a nutshell, the spotters are sophisticated microphones that can discern between gunfire and other percussive noises (firecrackers, Fred Sanford’s car backfiring) and relay the exact location of the shooting to police."

Oakland and Redwood City as well as a few other cities around the US already have it in use. Wonder what this will reveal about SF, in terms of unreported shootings of course, but also about how the police respond to said shootings.

Here's the article.

And here's a follow up article.

Rah, are you still there? I noticed that you haven't updated the blog lately. The latest shootings around SOMA haven't been included. I hope they haven't shut you down. You provide an invaluable service. We can't count on the Chronicle or the electronic media for accurate San Francisco crime figures and crime reporting.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my iphone and
tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I
had to share it with someone!
