(03-11) 17:32 PDT SAN FRANCISCO - A 22-year-old man visiting his family was shot and killed on the street today near the Sunnydale housing projects in Visitacion Valley, San Francisco police said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was standing in front of 130 Blythdale Ave. when a gunman approached and opened fire, said Lt. John Murphy of the homicide detail.

The killer ran off. Police said they had few leads in the case.

"Nobody out there wanted to give us a description," Murphy said. "Everyone was kind of afraid."

Murphy said the victim had moved away from the area and had been living in San Mateo County. He had family in the projects, however, and was visiting them when he was killed, police said.

"We hadn't seen him in a long time," but the victim may have still had enemies in the neighborhood, Murphy said. "You never know. These guys carry grudges."
